An Invitation

I received an invitation here at Birdsall Cottage to attend a gathering to celebrate the birthday of my neighbor, Maj Genl. A. Jackson of the Tennessee Militia. The celebration will occur on Tuesday, March 15th at the Hermitage, and I am reliably informed that there will be children’s games, walking tours, a military demonstration, and wagon tours of the grounds.

The girls will be dressed in their new white dresses to attend and we shall have a picnic on the grounds. Now I am tasked with deciding what to pack in the basket that my children will eat that will not also ruin their dresses if dropped upon them whilst attempting to eat.
